What is the "Mountain Farmhouse" Style?

Let's talk about another home design style that is very popular here in our mountain town - the Mountain Farmhouse Style. Overall, this style is warm, casual and welcoming (the farmhouse) with a dash of rustic elements (the mountains). It takes classic farmhouse elements and combines them with a few rustic materials to create a house that seems perfectly at home in the mountains. Here's a concept board that I created for this style:

Start with using an overall neutral color palette with accents of soft blues and greens, then add textured natural materials like stone, barnwood and handmade tile to add the rustic/mountain touch. Wide plank floors, shiplap and wood beams are another hallmark of the farmhouse style. Or try a herringbone wood floor for a more modern touch.

"Living finishes" (they get better with age!), such as unlacquered brass plumbing fixtures or door hardware, are another beautiful addition to a Mountain Farmhouse.

Here are a few more spaces that are perfect examples of this gorgeous style.

{Hint: Add fur to those dining chairs for winter!} And last, check out this mudroom boot storage - definitely a good thing for our winter-y wonderland!

Overall, the Mountain Farmhouse style is casual, comfortable, family-friendly, inviting and durable, which is perfect for a mountain home! xoxoxo Sally
